This is a working acceptable-use policy for the current pre-launch and platform build. The operator and contact details must be finalised before launch, creator onboarding, paid products or advertising sales. Until then, contact can be made at [LEGAL CONTACT EMAIL].

Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to visitors, readers, subscribers, account holders, creators, publications, advertisers and anyone else using The Yarn.

How this policy works with the Terms and Privacy Policy

This policy works together with the Terms of Use at /terms and the Privacy Policy at /privacy. It does not replace either of them. Privacy and personal information matters are handled under the Privacy Policy.

Creator and publication responsibility

Creators and publications are responsible for what they publish, upload, send or promote through The Yarn. They must ensure their content, lists, claims and campaigns are lawful and do not breach this policy. They must not use The Yarn to expose raw subscriber emails or misuse audience data. Each creator/publication owns its own audience, and The Yarn does not claim ownership of creator audiences.

Reader, subscriber and account-holder responsibility

Readers, subscribers and account holders must not abuse accounts, security systems, subscription flows or any comment or contact channels that may later be enabled. This includes no spam, harassment, fraud, scraping or other misuse.

Advertiser responsibility

Advertisers are responsible for ensuring their creative, targeting requests, landing pages and claims are lawful, accurate and not misleading. Advertising is enquiry-only unless and until it is enabled. Advertisers do not receive raw subscriber emails. The Yarn does not guarantee advertising approval, reach, performance, conversion, revenue or availability.

Lawful opinion and political debate

The Yarn is built for independent publishing and robust debate. Lawful political opinion, criticism, commentary and disagreement are not banned simply because they are unpopular, offensive or controversial.

This does not permit unlawful threats, targeted harassment, doxxing, intimidation, incitement, dehumanising abuse, privacy abuse, spam, fraud, malware, or content that creates serious legal or safety risk. Decisions are made case by case, and The Yarn does not promise that enforcement will be uniform across every situation.

Illegal and restricted content

The Yarn prohibits content that is illegal, restricted under applicable law, or that creates serious legal or safety risk. This includes, for example, child sexual exploitation or abuse material, terrorism or extremist violence, instructions or encouragement for serious violence, and material The Yarn is legally required to remove or restrict.

Child sexual exploitation and abuse material

The Yarn has zero tolerance for child sexual exploitation and abuse material. The creation, possession, sharing, solicitation or attempted distribution of such material is strictly prohibited. The Yarn may remove, preserve and report this material to the relevant authorities where it is legally required to do so.

Terrorism, extreme violence and serious harm

The Yarn prohibits the promotion, recruitment, praise, instruction or operational support of terrorist activity or extreme violence. Lawful news reporting, criticism, documentation or commentary is permitted where it does not encourage or support harm.

Threats, harassment, abuse and intimidation

The Yarn prohibits credible threats, targeted harassment, intimidation, stalking, encouraging others to harass, and abuse intended to silence or endanger a person.

Doxxing, privacy abuse and misuse of personal information

The Yarn prohibits posting private personal information without a lawful basis or consent. This includes home addresses, private contact details, identity documents, account credentials and other sensitive private information. Legitimate public-interest reporting is preserved where it is lawful and proportionate.

Hate, dehumanisation and targeted abuse

The Yarn prohibits targeted abuse, dehumanisation, and calls for exclusion, intimidation or violence against people based on protected characteristics. This is not a broad ban on discussion of politics, migration policy, religion, ideology, crime, culture or government policy. It is focused on conduct that creates safety or legal risk.

Sexual content and exploitation

The Yarn prohibits sexual exploitation, coercion, non-consensual intimate material, sexualised content involving minors, and content The Yarn is legally required to restrict. The Yarn does not provide adult-content product support.

Self-harm, suicide and dangerous behaviour

The Yarn prohibits the encouragement, instruction or promotion of suicide, self-harm, eating disorder behaviour or dangerous challenges. Recovery, news, criticism and support-oriented content is permitted.

Spam, scams and deceptive conduct

The Yarn prohibits spam, scams, phishing, fraud, misleading claims, fake engagement, deceptive monetisation claims and other manipulative conduct. This applies to advertiser and creator commercial claims, and misleading advertising claims are not allowed.

Impersonation and misleading use

The Yarn prohibits pretending to be another person, publication, business or public body without authorisation. Parody and commentary are permitted where they are not misleading.

Intellectual property and copyright

The Yarn prohibits infringing material. Copyright complaints can be sent to [LEGAL CONTACT EMAIL]. A dedicated copyright and takedown page may be added later.

Malware, scraping and platform security

The Yarn prohibits malware, scraping, credential attacks, unauthorised access, security testing without permission, rate-limit abuse and data harvesting. Subscriber emails must not be exposed.

Advertising, sponsorship and commercial claims

Advertisers and creators must ensure their commercial claims are lawful, accurate and not misleading. Advertising is enquiry-only unless and until it is enabled. No self-serve advertising is live. No paid subscriptions or creator payouts are claimed as live. The Yarn does not guarantee any particular performance, reach, revenue or conversions. Advertisers do not receive raw subscriber emails.

Moderation, restriction and removal

The Yarn may remove, restrict, label, refuse, suspend or terminate access for policy breaches, legal risk, safety risk, operational risk or to protect platform integrity. The Yarn does not promise constant moderation, does not promise any particular enforcement outcome, and does not promise an appeal or a response time unless a future workflow provides one.

Reports, complaints and review

Until a dedicated reporting workflow exists, complaints can be sent to [LEGAL CONTACT EMAIL]. Please include enough information to identify the content and the issue. The Yarn may request more information. The Yarn does not promise that it will respond to, review or resolve every report, and it does not promise an appeal.

No monitoring guarantee

The Yarn does not guarantee that it will monitor all content or detect every breach of this policy.

No publication, reach or delivery guarantee

The Yarn does not guarantee publication, distribution, ranking, reach, delivery, monetisation, advertising approval or creator revenue.

Repeated or serious breaches

Repeated or serious breaches may result in removal, restriction, account suspension, termination, refusal of service, advertiser rejection, creator restriction, preservation of records, or reporting to authorities where required.

Changes to this policy

The Yarn may update this policy from time to time. Material changes may be notified by a notice on the site or by other reasonable means. The Yarn will not rely on overbroad unilateral variation without reasonable notice.
